Brackets will not work
Please help me, I am working on a musical piece which requires one bar to have brackets but no matter what I try, whenever I try to add the bracket, it changes so that my entire piece is in brackets. This is infuriating as I'm not seeing anyone else have this issue. Yes my musescore is up to date. Thank you

I'm guessing you don't mean bracket in the sense MuseScore means bracket. A bracket by definition doesn't apply to only one bar, it applies to the entire score, and is used to connect multiple related staves. If you explain in more detail what it is you are actually trying to do, we can understand and assist better.
