Early Music
I'm hoping to transcribe early music from facsimile which has no bar lines i.e. note values need to be as written, e.g. if a semibreve appears in an unexpected place it isn't turned into a tied minimum or a longa into 4 tied semibreves, but I can't work out to achieve this.

See the Handbook under "Early music features". Short answer for this particular aspect of the problem: use Tools / Measures / Join Selected Measures to combine mutiple measures into one big one per system, then add your note, then using the corresponding Split function to break them up as needed for different systems.
