How to shorten guitar tab note stems

Currently I am trying to reduce the space between staves. Consequently, I want to also shorten the note stems so that the space between staves isn't cramped.
I can manually (and tediously) right click on each stem and edit element to shorten them. However I have read about some alternatives:
1. I've right-clicked on a beam and selected them all, but when I change the user position values, nothing happens and they revert back to 2.30sp.
2. I've also changed the style, by changing the value of the shortest stem to the minimum(?) 1.00sp but changing this doesn't appear to change anything on my staff either though.
