instrument change mid-section on same staff?

hey folks

can i change instrument in the middle of a section without having to have an extra staff?

i would like to be able to switch between 'muted' guitar, clean guitar, and distorted guitar in the same staff at various parts in a composition - without having to have extra staves, one per instrument.
