French lute tablature with linked stave: odd behaviour of rhythm symbols if quaver beaming altered.

• May 17, 2020 - 16:05

I am arranging some 6-course lute music for the 4-course renaissance guitar. I'm using tab with letters on the stave and Italian rhythm symbols, set to repeat only at the beginning of each bar.

The default beaming of quavers is in groups of 4, but sometimes I want to split them into 2+2 because of the implications for phrasing. However doing so inserts an incorrect semibreve symbol in the tab stave. If I then use the Beam properties palette it produces a symbol that doesn't belong in tab at all. (Format / reset beams fixes it.)

I don't necessarily want to set the default quaver beaming to be groups of 2. If I set the rhythm symbols to repeat for each note there is no problem, but I don't want to as I think it looks messy and slows down reading.

I've attached the file - errors are marked in red and purple, correct rendering in blue.

Indeed, I think I've met it a few times (and it was reported two or three times from memory on this forum), but no one has taken the trouble to report it in the Issue Tracker.
This is the kind of minor (for me) glitch that is easily solvable, you say via Format/Reset Beams. But also in the Beams properties palette, by clicking "Auto" symbol. If you do this kind of operation really often, and you are bothered by it, please report it in the Issue Tracker.
