[Question] Is there a way to add an mp3 to musescore?

• Jun 13, 2020 - 06:57

I have marching percussion set up in musescore and I wanted to write a piece along with a song. This is where my question comes in, am I able to add an mp3 file or will I just have to perfectly sync up the music with what I write?

There is no easy way.

"The way" is to use a soundfont editor to create a soundfont that uses the audio from your mp3 as a sample for a given note. Then you load the soundfont into MuseScore and enter a note with the correct duration tied over your whole song.

imho way too much effort for synching up your performance. Once your music is entered, export the audio and use audio software to synchronize tracks.

I tried the SoundFont trick once, just to see if it would actually work, and it did. However, it would play only if I played the score from the very beginning; otherwise, MuseScore would miss the “note” that triggered the audio. This makes sense, as MuseScore doesn't currently have the ability to start playback of a note from the middle.

So, not incredibly useful.
