Recognizing Note Velocity from MIDI Input?

• Jun 17, 2020 - 17:34

Hello, thank you very much for making this program available. I am using a MIDI keyboard with touch-sensitivity to enter notes into MuseScore, so the notes I play have a range of different dynamics within phrases. However, MuseScore automatically maps every note to the same velocity level. Is there a setting to allow the notes to be set down at the velocity levels from the MIDI keyboard? The closest I have found is to alter the notes afterward in the Piano Roll Editor, but this requires me to select each note and then drag the velocity levels to approximations of what I played, which would be fine in one or two instances but is too slow to be a practical solution for every song. Is there a solution for this? I am using Windows 10 and MuseScore was only 1 of 2 notation programs available in S-Mode, so I don't know if there is another program or sequencer that I should use that is available from Microsoft Store. Thank you!

MuseScore isn't a sequencer (not yet, anyhow) and isn't really mean for that sort of thing. It's designed for notation, so the usual expectation is you'd add dynamic markings to specify the volume you want. If you instead want the written dynamics to be ignored and to only use MIDI velocity, better to use a sequencer to record a MIDI file then import that.
