Where are efforts needed?
I'd like to contribute to the documentation, but diving straight in doesn't really appeal to me, so I thought I'd ask: where is it most needed? I'm a traditional notationalist, coming from LilyPond and Early Music notation.

I think he left.
MuseScore 3.5 will include quite a few changes that will probably ripple throughout the Handbook, so to me, just helping figure out where we need to update things is going to be a priority soon. The going through and doing it. Then it's probably a matter of sitting tight while we wait for changes to come in MuseScore to solidify enough to start on that.
