MIDI drums

Is there a way to consolidate marching percussion parts? Specifically the Cymbals and MDL Cymbal line. There are some sounds from both that I am trying to use, but trying to add the sounds to either part results in a noiseless note. In some cases, different sounds are saved for the same MIDI number.
