How to change the distance between notes?

• Aug 5, 2020 - 20:35

Hello,

I have a score where there is a massive tuplet in one measure, and it goes off the page. I was wondering if there was any way to fix this. I know there's a command that allows you to increase / decrease the distance between notes, especially ones with beams, but I forgot what it was. I remember seeing it in a video made by Marc Sabatella to explain and demonstrate the process, it was in a response to another similar forum, but I can't find it anymore. If anyone knows what it is, please let me know. Thanks.

First you might try selecting the measure and reducing stretch a few notches by pressing "{" a few times.

You might also want to make those notes smaller. Select the range, hit the Notes button in the Inspector, then check Small under the "Chord" section. If that doesn't do enough you may need to reduce the overall staff size (Fiormat / Page Settings) or the minimum note distance (Format / Style / Measure).

If that doesn't help, then please attach your score (or even just a relevant excerpt) and we can assist better.

Please attach the MS file. I have never been happy with “massive tuplets“ and I suspect there is probably a better way of achieving what you want.
