Constant freeze/crashing when entering notes using MIDI

The machine I'm using is a Debian 10 box built with a Ryzen 3800X and 64GB RAM with a Nektar Impact GX61 USB MIDI controller and a Scarlett 4i4 interface, and I'm using JACK for the sound server on the interface.
I originally installed version 3.2.3 from the Debian repos and was able to start entering notes with MIDI, but could only get about two bars in before it would hard-freeze. I had to force quit and restart only to get the same behavior; after a couple bars Musescore will hard freeze. Rinse and repeat.
I uninstalled 3.2.3 and downloaded the most recent appimage, 3.5.0, hoping the newer version would have corrected this but it immediately started developing the same behavior.
I don't have any logs unfortunately but will be happy to answer any questions that'll help diagnose the issue.
