Unpitched Percussion Instruments and Custom Fonts for Instrument Names Freeze Musescore

• Nov 12, 2024 - 21:36

If you customise the font for instrument names and then try to input notes into unpitched percussion parts Musescore freezes. In the file I have attached, if you try to input notes into the bass drum, cymbals, and triangle parts Musescore will freeze. This does not happen for the other instruments.

Hi, i was just trying to open your score under Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and MuseScore 4.4.3 and then I entered notes in all the instruments except the three lines percussion and it plays Ok. After that I entered notes in the Drum line and it takes almost 1 minute before the note appears ans plays. After the third trial on the other percussion lines, the system really freezes completely.
As experiment, I decided to remove all the instruments except the percussion lines, and under this situation, I do not have any problem to entering notes in the percussion lines. All this instruments plays correctly. I am not sure if your problem is caused by the Fonts of the instruments names or by the number of instruments. In any case my last trial was opening the score with MuseScore 3.7.0 Evolution and with this version I did not have any problem at all. I could enter notes in all instruments (without freezing) and I could play ans save the result.
In fact it seems to be a problem with MuseScore 4.4.3. In case you change the fonts (I do not know if you already make this test) and you can enter notes in all the instruments without problem and it plays Ok, we could think that the problem are really the fonts. The developers of MuseScore 4.4.3 should check in any case this score. If you really need to use this font, I recommend you to use MuseScore 3.7.0 Evolution if possible. I attach my test with MuseScore 3.7.0 Evolution. You can open this score also with MuseScore 4.4.3
