Acer won't download for student

• Sep 4, 2025 - 20:59

I am a music teacher who uses MuseScore in a virtual classroom. I have a student who is using an Acer from 2020. She can't download the current version (She hasn't downloaded any version yet). When I click on "Download MuseScore Studio without MuseHub", my computer does that. When she clicks the same button, she gets a screen that says "Download an older version". If she clicks that, it takes her right back to the main page.

Any ideas?

Maybe try MS3.6.2 or MS3.7 as a 5 year old Acer may struggle with MS4 depending on its spec.

Does the Acer meet the minimum spec for MS4? Personally, I would go for at least the recommended spec for optimum experience. (See the bottom of the download page for details).

Files saved in the older versions will open in the newer versions. Files save in the newer version will not open in the older versions. There is a non-official 3.7 version that might find common ground for you and your pupil:

A 2000 "Acer" probably is underspecified for the most recent MuseScore version. As already asked, does it meet the minimum requirements?:

They are somewhat different but some people prefer them for various reasons. They are fully featured but place less demand on the computer. MS3.7 Evolution can open MS4 scores.
You could check out it's handbook: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3

Did you also try the MS4 Portable download?

Have you tried downloading MS4 without MuseHub to a different computer and copying the installation file to the Acer? I am very surprised that the download appears to be blocked so maybe other users have better ideas. I did download MS4 for a 13 year old computer once. No problem with the download but the computer couldn't handle the program.
