Playback mute unexplainably

This has happened several times to me: Musescore 3.5 is open for some time and I have been working on it. Then I want to play back to check aurally for errors. In spite of the sound settings on my Mcbook air being as usual there is no sound (while youtube or Apple's "music" still has a sound if I try that). If I then close and restart Musescore and try play back again I get the sound I am expecting.

Any ideas what it is I am doing to make this happen?

I'm not familiar with Mac. But what I maybe would check inside the task manager, if there's any process, which occurs it.
