No Sound

• Sep 17, 2020 - 04:07

On playback cursor moves along but no sound generated. I've checked all the items in https://musescore.org/en/node/96811 . This is a new MacBook Air running 10.15.16. I suspect the problem is to do with 32 bit drivers but not clear what I should do about it.

I'm not sure. I read through the postings I could find regarding my problem (loss of sound), followed the checklist on https://musescore.org/en/node/96811 . One item on the checklist referred to drivers and 32 bit processors. Since MuseScore works and continues to work on my older machines - this problem is new to my new MACBook Air I thought that might be a lead. But its a shot in the dark - maybe you have another suggestion.
Thanks,
Allan

Drivers shouldn't be an issue for you as there is only the 64bit version for Mac.
The last two items on that list are Mac specific. The next to last shouldn't be needed for a new machine. The last one involves holding down the start button until the machine finishes booting up. You are now in safe mode. This mode is use for in depth trouble shooting. But you only need to restart your computer. This has helped some people with sound problems. But not everyone. What do you see in the I/O section of Preferences?

Ah well, MuseScore doesn't know that. In that drop down menu where is says Zoom, see what else is there that has something to do with your Mac. I don't know what is there. so you may need to try a few things if there is more than one. That would appear to be your no sound issue.

definitely getting closer. The pull down menu had a good list - similar to what my Sound preferences list is. Trouble is - when I try to select something else (like internal speakers) it doesn't "stick". That is - the Apply button is greyed out and the OK button collapses the menu but going back in again its still stuck on ZoomAudioDevice. Can't seem to change it.

ok - finally got some sound. The I/O page is really behaving strangely though - not clear how to make it work but it looks like the Multi-output device will generate sound so I can get by until the next release. The headphone outputs and internal speakers are un-selectable for some reason.

Thanks for your help.
