The Use of 2 Time Signatures at the beginning

• Nov 20, 2020 - 21:34

So, I am composing a piece that switches time signatures quite often. So, I decided to try to put 2 time sigs. at the beginning and make the others invisible. Only thing is is that I don't know how to do so...

In the first image, which is for piano, you can see it changes from 7/8 to 6/8 to 4/4 and so on. I want to know how to put the 3 time sigs. at the beginning so that I son't have to see the time change over and over again throughout the piece.

In the second image, also for piano, it shows exactly what I want to do for the time sig.

Choose a base duration and apply that time signature. I would probably 6/8 in the second example. You can use any of these then right click the time signature, choose time signature properties set a new displayed time signature if one of them besides the first is more common. Use the symbols palette (press z) and search "time" to see time signature elements. You can apply these to the first note then move them to make them look right. You may need to turn off auto placement to make it work properly. I would also enter everything into the system with the time signature and put a system break in the last measure so the number of measures on that system won't change before adding the other time signatures.

When you get to a measure with a different duration you can either press ctrl+shift+ note name to add a note with the appropriate number of beats to change the measure duration or choose a rest of the appropriate duration, click it and press ctrl+delete to remove the extra beats. You can do it in note input mode. I find this easier than right clicking every measure and changing the actual duration which disrupts the work flow.
