Can't beam with unusual groupings
I'm trying to beam across unusual sixteenth and eighth or dotted eighths groupings in 4/4 time, but the Beam Palettes in 3.5.2 doesn't let me do it most of the time.
I click on the beam placement that I want and that doesn't work or drag and drop the desired value but it just displays a red circle.
Here is what the handbook says:
Drag and drop a beam symbol from the Beam Properties palette onto a note in the score.
Select one or more notes in the score and click the desired symbol in the Beam Properties palette (double-click in versions prior to 3.4).

You want a beam on the rest? Select the rest and click the beam in the palette (probably the middle beam from what I can see)
Here's a better example of what I want to do:
Beam the four 1/16ths on beat 3 and the 1/16th note, 1/16th note rest and the 1/8 note on beat 4.
FYI, I just edited the manual to include how to add beams to rests.

I don't know if the second file uploaded so I'll try it again. I was able to beam the four 16ths on beat 3 but I still can't beam beat 4.

The one that won't beam is set to either start beam or no beam. Any note set to either of these will not beam to the previous note, no matter what their beam is set to. You need to set it to middle beam.
Edit: I'm guessing since I'm looking at a picture rather than a score so I can see the beam settings. It's also possible that you didn't set the previous items to middle beam, but I doubt that.
