Or if it's for an entire staff (such as meterless music) you can untick it in the staff properties.
But also, if you're changing time signatures just to have a few extra (or fewer) beats in a measure, no need, that's what Measure Properties are for, also the Join and Split commands. If you attach your score and describe your goal in more detail, we can advise better as to which method is best for your case.
