I copied this piece into MuseScore from a downloaded xml. How do I control the length of time of the double whole chords and duplicate the pulsing of the curser on playback.?

I'm not really sure what you mean here - could you explain in more detail? Are you saying you want to change the current double whole notes into some other duration? Normally, select the note, click the desired new duration on the toolbar. But, you will probably need to adjust the actual duration of the measure as well, right-click and use Measure Properties.
