File unopenable

I pressed the spacebar to begin playback on my score and then MuseScore froze and crashed, I restarted my computer and the file was no longer openable. Is there any way to recover it, or is it toast?

I saw other forums that basically the file would be done for, just posting this to be certain that I can't do anything else.

Thanks for that. I'm not sure if it's coincidence, but I installed 3.6 earlier today, continued working on a score and saved it. It failed to subsequently reopen - crashing the software before it could get started - and I had to use your advice to open the backup. Unfortunately, I lost an entire days work which I'm not feeling overly motivated to work on again...
