Midi input

I am familiar with Sibelius (6.x) and now wish to use MuseScore in hopes that the sounds are better. However, I cannot get note input from my midi keyboard (although it works for Sibelius). I have turned the midi on before opening MuseScore and believe I followed the correct steps. Any idea what I may be doing wrong?
