Manual Playback with Highlight?

Is there a way to manually progress a single melodic line and keep the highlight function that happens during standard playback?

Any way to incorporate the highlight when manually selecting notes with the arrow key?

In the gif I've included, the standard playback function is demonstrated which contains the highlight function I would like to carry over to the manual progression using the arrow key that follows.
