Entering NON-MIDI Percussion Parts

I've only had this app for a few hours, and it looks good, and I'm sure the problem is with me, but I'm just not understanding a few basic things. Like, why under the Pallet/Notes that there aren't a whole menu of notes AND rests, or why if they're going to put the rests in the toolbar above that beside the notes, why isn't there a drop down for rests of other durations? Also, I see the time marker at bottom right of screen (Bar X, Beat X), so why doesn't it let you move that fwd? I also found the symbols chart under Create, but I was hoping it might let me drag the notes and rests I needed to the Pallet/Notes screen.

So, you can see I've given an earnest effort. My biggest problem is finding an easy way to put ANY kind of notes, and rests ANYWHERE I need them.

Thanks,
KC

Lasconic,

I DID read all of that...several times. As I mentioned in the original post, I worked patiently for hours. I DID NOT criticize the application. I simply asked for a little more clarification. However, I'll be sure not to dare come back here for any advice, or support.

BYE!,

It sound like you might have been trying to use the "Notes" palette to add notes to the score. This is actually for grace notes and the palette is poorly named (I changed the palette title to "Grace Notes" in revision 2249 so it won't confuse people in the next version of MuseScore).

To select the duration of a note use the toolbar that goes across the top of the window then click on a staff to add the note. For rests use the rest button (it looks like a quarter rest) in combination with a duration (such as half note) then click on the staff as before. As you get used to it you may find it useful to use the keyboard shortcuts as mentioned in the handbook.

P.S. Everyone makes mistakes. Lasconic was trying to help and acting in good faith.

Lasconic,

Apology accepted, and thanks for the attachment. Actually, I did figure out how to use the Symbols chart to just drag whatever rests I need to wherever I need it. I do, however, have a question about the proper way how to insert at any given point in a bar. Do I somehow use the Bar X, Beat X box at the bottom right?

Thanks,
George
