Changing lyric font size before typing

• Feb 16, 2021 - 00:30

I'm scoring music for a children's primer. Is there a way to change the font size before I insert the lyrics? Currently, I'm inserting the lyrics and then changing the font size one syllable at a time. I looked in Format Style, but didn't see anything specifically related to font size. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for your help! <3

Welcome to the convoluted Styling UI of MuseScore:

Lyrics font-sizing is not in Format>Style>Lyrics, they are found in Format>Style>Text Styles>Lyrics with separate settings for even and odd lyric-lines.

All font settings - not just for lyrics - can be found in under Format / Style / Text Styles. Having them in one place simplifies the task of changing several element types to a consistent font, which is why the fonts settings aren't scattered throughout the other pages. Either approach would make some tasks easier, others harder, but this is what users seemed to prefer as this was being developed.

Note you can also easily set style from the Inspector. Make one lyric the way you want, then hit the "Set as style" button ("S" icon). But indeed, you will generally need to do that separately for even and odd lyric verses, because there are separate styles in order to support the common convention of alternating normal an italic verses.
