Capo options - Replace existing chord symbol

• Mar 17, 2021 - 19:24

I found the "capo fret position" tool, which is great. The problem is that somehow this makes a lead sheet that is very cluttered and difficult to read. I'd like there to be an option where the capo'd chord symbol replaces the existing chord symbol instead of being added to it in parentheses. If this option exists, I can't find it.

One possible way of doing this (and how I used to do it in Sibelius) is to select the chord symbols (very easy to do in MuseScore) and transpose them without transposing the rest of the music. Again, if this can be done in MuseScore, I can't figure out how.

Thanks for your help.

This is something I'm just encountering. I have a song which is played by the artist with a capo on the second fret. He then plays simpler chords. The problem is that you have to put the melody in the score a whole step down from the actual tone in order for it not to conflict with the playback of the simpler chords. The "capo chord in parens" is not a useful solution because I rely on the chord diagrams. I was thinking that if the "capo 2" text designation was instead a variable (Like tempo, for example), then a "2" would indicate that the chords designated would have to be played back a whole step up. An "Em" chord diagram would still look the same, but sound l like an "Fm" chord in playback. Something in the program would do this calculus, based on the variable "capo". You want a singer to be able to do the melody directly from the score, in tune, so it's the chord playback that has to be adjusted.

Just a thought...
