Lost Score on Chromebook

• Jun 3, 2021 - 18:00

I composed a score a few days ago, and I pressed 'x', without realizing I have to save the score. Nothing popped up either- no warning that my score would be lost. After not finding it on musescore, I tried finding a saved or recovered version somewhere in my files. I thought I found it, because it had the same title, but it got saved in my files as a "Zip archive". When I click on the zip, a "mscx" file comes up. There doesn't seem to be any way to open the file that works. Please help!

When you close MuseScore, if you have a score you haven't saved, a dialog definitely does appear. So, either you accidentally closed that dialog as well, or you actually had saved the score. If you found the file on your computer, then probably that means you did in fact save it. So open it, simply use File / Open from within MuseScore. The computer doesn't automatically "know" what kind of file MSCZ files are, so it's not unusual they would be reported as ZIp files because technically, they are. So opening from your Files app won't usually work (although sometimes it does, and I haven't figured out why it works sometimes but not others). Just open directly from within MuseScore and all is well.
