Grace notes in wrong position after a rest.

• Jul 5, 2021 - 13:06

When a grace note appears just after an 1/8 note rest it is positioned in front of the rest instead of in front of the following note. The screen shot shows examples: the grace notes at the start of a measure are fine but the grace notes in the middle of the measure are positioned in front of the preceding rest instead of the note. The slur shows that this is the case as well. Note that the grace notes really are attached to the following note, not the rest (if that is even possible).
These grace notes do play correctly. I know I can move them manually (X-offset) but the automatic alignment should be improved.
This happens in version 3.6.2.548020600 revision 3224f34 (if that matters).

MuseScore is trying to be clever and allow things to overlap where possible, and usually that's a good thing - grace notes can overlap notes in other voices or staves. But I agree that here it doesn't make sense. Probably the correct workaround is not to offset the grace notes, but to add leading space to the main note. But it would be good to consult with some published editions to see how various cases are handled.
