Violoncello to just Cello SOLVED

• Jul 5, 2021 - 20:04

Is there a way to have the full name just Cello? the "official" name is old fashioned and cumbersome. No-one I know calls it that, I'd like to just have the full instrument name as Cello, and the abbreviated a plain C.

Silly me forgot it's a double click job not a overall setting....SOLVED

FWIW, while people don't call it that in ordinary conversation, most published scores do still use the full name. So if you'd like your score to look professional, best to leave that alone, actually, even if you continue to call it "cello" verbally.

"Most" is simply a numeric fact - just go to any music library and a count, you'll find Violoncello is by far the more commonly used name in published scores. But indeed, no doubt, there are exceptions. I just wanted to make sure you were aware it is the exception. Many people are simply not aware that violoncello really is still the commonly used name in published scores, because they are familiar only with the "conversational" name.
