Uninstall MuseScore on MacOS and remove all preferences, extensions, and plug-ins

• Jul 21, 2021 - 09:49

I have a problem with the extensions in my local MuseScore installation (on each start, it wants to update them, but fails to do so. Removing them is also not possible).

I though the best idea is to uninstall the application and install it again. However, all preferences, settings and extensions are still there. The documentation I've found (https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/install-macos) is apparently incomplete, as dragging the application into the trash does not remove MuseScore entirely (after re-installing, all settings are preserved). I think this behavior is ok, to allow upgrading the application without losing all my settings. However, I'm missing information on how to completely remove MuseScore.

Could you please tell me how I can completely remove MuseScore on a Mac and update the documentation accordingly? I found some information in ~/Library/Application Support/ and ~/Library/Preferences/. It would be great to document this and clarify if there might be more places where information is being stored.

Thanks a lot!

The places where MuseScore stores settings is documents in the handbook page to revert to factory settings.

I've updated the Mac installation page to mention that settings and score are not getting deleted on uninstalling. The Windows installation page did mention that already

I'm unable to find anything about Mac Installation in the MuseScore 4 manual - there are section headers for each OS (Windows, Mac, Linux) but no content - see screenshot 'MuseScore Manual'. As already mentioned, the MuseScore 3 Handbook does not include details of all parts of the application - e.g. what parts of MuseScore are in the Library.
Also the 'revert to factory settings' section is the same - headings but no content (screenshot MuseScore Settings).
Help please!

Same Problem here. There are little "helpful" files to make your re-install "easier" and they are screwing up everything. I can't get a clean install on my MacOS, either. Somebody's GOT to know how to do this.
