Why does changing Key Signature to C Major *change the notes into different notes?* The WRONG notes are being displayed now
All I wanted to do was change the KEY signature. NOT actually transpose the notes at all. Yet for some reason a note that should be C#, for example, has been transformed into a C. Why would this be happening? How can it be prevented? I want the correct notes to be preserved, but just represented in C Major signature. Thank you.

Changing the key signature does not change the pitches of notes. For that you'd need to transpose instead.
What you're describing is exactly the opposite of what MuseScore does when applying a key signature. If you only apply a key signature the pitch of the notes is never altered by MuseScore.
Please share the score in which you can reproduce the wrong behavior.
