Open the Synthesizer and lower the volume slider slightly, see: https://musescore.org/en/node/303529
Were you previously using an older version? There hasn't been a new version in many months. But if you were using a very old version, it's possible you have some settings left over that aren't compatible with the versions that have been out the past few years. So Help / Revert to Factory Settings would be a good idea.
If you continue to have trouble after that, please attach the actual score, and if possible, a link to an audio file you upload somewhere else, so we can hear what you hear. Also say what OS you are on and what settings you see in Edit / Preferences / I/O.
