Play repeats symbol graying out
For no reason that I can figure, the 'play repeats ' symbol grays out. This happens the moment I press the 'start play' arrow, and playback starts and plays as normal but repeats are not played. When I press the playback arrow again, playback stops (as it should) and the play repeats symbol goes back to normal (black).
This problem is present for all my files - I should be very grateful for suggestions to get rid of it.

It's the normal behavior, that the play repeats button is greyed out during the playback. You've to tick or untick the button before you start the playback.

It's not really clear for me, what you're missing. Are you talking for example about repeat barlines? If so be sure, that the button "play repeats" is ticked, and not unticked before starting the playback.
Another situation I could imagine with elements from the jump palette, like "d.c.", "d.s." and so on. There you've an option inside the inspector to tick "play repeats".
Maybe attache one of your score maybe to get a clue about the reason (I've read that you wrote that it happens with all your scores).

One of these options should actually work. Of course, you can always revert to factory settings, but shouldn't be necessary.
If the play repeats button is black, it is deactivated, so no repeats are taken. If activated is it blue.
It does turn gray (AKA disabled, i.e. you can't use it in that state) during playback, whether active or not.
