Mini input with audio output (Musescore's synthesizer)... Which settings to use?

• Aug 26, 2021 - 20:39

Hi there!

I'm having trouble getting Musescore to play sound when using my midi keyboard (this use to work before, but I don't remember how the I/O preferences page was configured).

What I want to be able to do is to play my midi keyboard and have Musescore's synthesizer play the soundfonts of any selected staff. I'll include a screenshot of what my I/O settings are like.

I'm not sure which API option to select [see the first screenshot], which Device (I'm assuming that's my audio interface, which in my case, is a Focusrite USB interface) [see the second screenshot], and if I chose should choose anything under MIDI output (I believe not since I don't want what's written to play through the MIDI keyboard). The only thing I'm certain of is the MIDI input device, that being "DigitalKBD-1".

I'd appreciate any help!

P.S.
I should probably mention that general playback is working fine!

I have a Focuserite interface, but I never use it with a midi keyboard in MuseScore. If I get time this weekend , I'll experiment. In the meantime make sure everything is hooked up and turned on before starting MuseScore. Quite often this makes the difference.

Hi there!

Yes, everything is properly connected before starting Musescore.

I should clarify, however, that I use the Focusrite interface to listen (as well as to record in other programs and DAWs) to the playback. My MIDI keyboard is actually connected via USB directly into my PC.

My question really is what API should I use in order to hear the soundfonts within Musescore while playing the keyboard, a task I was able to do before, but I can't remember how.

Do let me know if you have any information upon testing.

Cheers!
