Hide TAB from linked Stave
I know there have been a few threads on this point but nothing seems to have changed - it is really clumsy working with TAB and staves linked and then not being able to hide one or the other for layout / print purposes.
Please consider making this feature normal - to be able to switch the visibility of linked staves individually.

I would have bet that this request, which is quite valid, has already been formally made. However, I think it has been made (it would be enough to find it... EDIT: done! #121271: Make "Visible" checkbox in Instruments dialog available for individual staves within an instrument), and listed in this EPIC : #285237: [EPIC] Invisible staves issues
Out of curiosity, does Dorico allow this?

It looks as if you'll have to wait for MuseScore 4 for this, but meantime a reasonable work around to remove a linked stave is in this recent thread: https://musescore.org/en/node/325036

Slightly different implementation in Dorico (one defines "layouts" and then the instruments within each, and TAB can be displayed or hidden at will) but essentially yes it does.
As to the workarounds - these generally feel more like kludges to me. I dislike workarounds for exactly that reason - they are ways to get around shortcomings and not usually terribly elegant or practical. Hopefully we'll see this addressed in MS4.
