Rests wont go away
I set up a piano score in 4/4 time with 29 measures. Score appears blank but with whole rests in the treble and bass clef of each measure. As I add notes in the treble clef, the rest is adjusted appropriately. But as I add notes in the bass clef, the whole note rest remains regardless of how many notes I add. So the whole bass clef is filled with notes and whole note rests. I've tried everything I can think of to delete the unwanted rests, but to no avail.

Sounds like you might have switched to the special insert mode - meant only for measures where you want additional beats in the measure beyond what the time signature calls for. EIther that or you switched to voice 2 or another voice -meant only for when you need more than one voice on a single staff, and that rests is there to show that nothing has been entered into voice 1 yet but you said you would so space is being left for you.
