Audio won't play when synthesiser selected on mac

Hi, I could just be missing something here but when I choose 'Enable synth' in order to just play certain instruments, the audio won't play. When I select 'Musescore audio' it plays fine (but I can't solo tracks etc). Is it outputting the sound differently? Am I missing something or is this a bug?

Any ideas greatly appreciated!!
