Adding a Rest
I am new to MuseScore. I must be missing something because I cannot figure out how to add a rest at the beginning of a measure. Please help.

Rests are the default.
Select the first rest in the bar and on the note durations menu near the top select the duration: 1/2, 1/4, 1/6 etc.
The whole rest will subdivide.
Thanks for your comment but I see nothing about : "note durations menu near the top select the duration: 1/2, 1/4, 1/6 etc." that you have described. How do I get to the note durations menu?

Sorry, I wasn't clear.
Just above the score are the Title(s) of the score(s) you have open.
Above that are icons for the note durations starting with "N" and then the durations: 1/64, 1/32, 1/16, 1/8 etc.
These icons are what I was referring to.
Oh, now I see. The note line also applies to the rest when selected. Couldn't find that anywhere in the help section. Thanks!
