My downloaded sheet music is "corrupted"

• Dec 20, 2021 - 17:20

Hi everyone, I am a total beginner and feel quite overwhelmed. I managed to import sheet music onto Musescore, and need to edit it. But when I get to the opening screen where my sheet music is listed, it says that it is 'corrupted'. What should I do now?
I would honestly appreciate any constructive help. Many thanks, Aletta

Welcome aboard...

Did you try to import a PDF file using the conversion service provided here?:

If you did, and received poor results...
Optical music recognition (OMR), used for interpreting music notation, is vastly more complex than optical character recognition (OCR), used for interpreting printed text. Results can vary depending on which OMR software is used along with how complicated the score is.
Looking at your attachment, the top part of the page does not contain any music at all. This can be confusing to the computer software as it can't "see" (for example, the black and white artwork). It only tries to interpret what all the blobs of ink on the page represent musically.
Sometimes "cleaning up" a PDF by deleting all "extraneous stuff" like images, chord fretboard diagrams, text blocks, etc. can make the OMR's job easier, which may produce better results

For short scores, entering the notes into MuseScore is often quicker.
On the other hand, if you actually have the MuseScore (.mscz) file, please attach it.
