SFZ files not working

• Jan 2, 2022 - 10:56

I'm currently trying to install the Virtual Playing Orchestra soundfont:

I've decompressed both zips and placed the contents in the Soundfonts folder. I then try to open a .sfz file in using Musescore by double clicking on it and selecting Musescore as the application. As soon as I do this, an error pops up saying:

Cannot read file C:/Users/Dell/OneDrive/Documents/MuseScore3/SoundFonts/Vocals/choir-MIXED-normal-mod-wheel.sfz:
unknown type

The files don't appear in Zerberus, and I'm now clueless.
I've read https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/soundfonts-and-sfz-files#sfz back to front, and nothing seems to give me an answer. Any help would be appreciated.

Esp. note that while the handbook does mention that SF2 and SF3 Fluid soundfonts can get installed via double-click, it does not mention this for SFZ ones, and for good reason: an SFZ soundfont really is a collection of files, the SFZ itself being merly an index for all the wav and flac files, so alone that does't work at all. Registing the .sfz extension to MuseScore doesn't buy you anything but trouble
