How to delete rests

• Mar 3, 2022 - 05:52

My example shows the tale end of a verse before the next line starts the chorus. I have one measure on the end that needs that D note followed by two rests. The chorus starts with a rest before the notes start. I wish I could delete the last two rests on the last line of the verse, but for some reason unless I am doing it wrong those rests do not delete. Before I posted this I tried a half note with a dot and yes it took care of the 2 rests but with the rest starting at the chorus it still drug out to long. I just need a small pause at the end of the verse before the chorus starts how do I accomplish it?

The time signature is 3/4 so 3 beats per measure...if I had a way to add that last D with the other notes before it then I could eliminate that very last measure but not sure how I could give that measure before it 4 notes instead of 3. So to be honest not sure what my title text should be but I guess it will remain on how to delete rests that are not needed? Is there a way to make that last measure before the chorus start small enough to just have the D only and not the rests?

Was just thinking that the pianist could manually give a pause after the last note of the 1st or 2nd verse so the rests in a way arre a mute point. However for the sake of playing this particular sheet music back in the musescore software the rests should still be eliminated anyway with at least one rest for a brief pause as mentioned above.

As a follow up, say you deleted the rests and now the measure is very small with just one note in it. Later you discover you want to add a rest back in to that measure, what is the process to add a rest (or maybe a note) back into that small measure? I am not sure of the procedure to expand a measure back to the 3 beats per measure

Or rather than changing to insert mode you can insert individual notes while remaining in normal step time mode using CTRL + SHIFT while entering the note. See
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/note-input-modes#timewise and scroll down to see the bit about inserting individual notes

To adjust the measure's duration before adding notes as Jojo describes see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/measure-operations#duration
