Stem Direction with slashes

• Mar 9, 2022 - 16:15

Hey guys,

I'm trying to write a three horn arrangement for one of my classes and I can't figure out how to simultaneously insert notes and slashes in the drum part. As you can see in m.4 I tried imputing some notes but some of them don't have stems.

Also just to clarify, I am using a marimba instrument part labeled as drums so I can place notes anywhere in the staff as I please.

Any help would be appreciated.

Phil

To add the "kicks" above the staff, add the notes first normally, move them to voice three with Tools / Voices / Exchange Voice 1-3 , then Tools / Toggle Rhythmic Slash Notation.

Then use Tools / Fill With Slashes to add the time slashes.

Also, no needed to resort to marimba just to get the drum notation as you want. The drumset definitely is completely customizable, so once you set up the liens & spaces the way you want, you can enter music on it very simply, with proper voice assignment, stem direction, and notehea,d far faster than using the marimba, and the playback will be correct. Also the layout will be better, as there are places where MuseScore does things differently depending on whether a staff is a drumset or not.
