Is there a way to stop automatic scroll to first staff during playback?
I like to be able to zoom in while editing my score, but whenever I start playback it scrolls to the first staff in the system, so if I'm trying to edit any instrument below the third staff I can't actually see it while it's playing.

Pan score during playback: Turn off if you want the score to remain stationary.
Try switching to continuous view. The issue you describe happens mostly in page view, in cases where there are multiple systems on a page and MuseScore can't determine which staff you are trying to follow.
