Reduce vertical stretch between staves

For five bars near the end of a composition, the vertical stretch between the soprano and the alto staves is too great. The remainder of spacing within the composition is fine; it is only with five bars (see screen shot for example).

How do I reduce or reset the vertical stretch between the two staves?
