Time Signatures
Please view the picture I have provided. Notice the "common time" signature near the bottom.
Is there a way to associate that time signature symbol with the measure counts in this piece?

Are you wanting the measure count to start over at the cut time?
You can create a tome signature as described here https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/time-signatures#create-time-signatu….
In this case you would create a 4/2 time signature and select the "cut common" symbol in the appearance section.

Worked like a charm!!! Thank you very much.
It happens that a number of pieces in the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, which I love to transcribe to MuseScore, use the 4/2 measure as "Common" or "Cut" time. I honestly didn't expect to see that show up in a Buxtehude organ piece!
....well, not so much.
I followed your instructions, and this is what I get (see picture.)
All the "properties" show that I picked "cut time" for appearance.

Now that you have that time signature with the correct symbol showing in the one staff use Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+ drag to drag it into the palette.
From now on you can select a measure and click on that new palette element to have the time signature applied as you want it.
