Is there a way to notate the individual notes of a turn (or other ornaments)?

If you want the "written out" ornament instead of using the symbol then just write the notes you want as you would any other notes. If you want to see the written out version but also keep the note with an ornament symbol (the term for this is an "ossia") then follow the instructions here https://musescore.org/en/node/46236

Thanks for the ideas. I don't think ossia is what I'm looking for (afaik, a 2nd staff is displayed for ossia?). Your former idea is closer to what I'm looking for. I tried it by adding the ornamental notes in a second voice. It sort of works, but the notes come out regular sized and I don't know how to squeeze the ornamental notes between their preceding and following written notes. I'm attaching screen shots of an example from a book (showing what I'm trying to accomplish), and what I've done with MuseScore.

Those are grace notes. They are available in the pallet. Click on the G (I assume treble clef) then click four times on the relevant grace note in the pallet. Then you can adjust the pitches of the grace notes with the up and down arrows in the normal way. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/grace-notes for more details about entering grace notes.

Aha! Thank you! I did not realize it was possible to notate a sequence of grace notes. Indeed, how to do it is right there in the handbook where you pointed me toward. Thanks again!
In this example, i did as Steve suggested and additional did a little "hack" to hide the staff lines right and left of the ornament. I added two lines, made the thickness 4sp, disabled autoplacement and dragged them before/after the ornament notes, made them white in colour to occupy the staff lines. ;-) Maybe this can be done easier!?
