Please help recover my project!

• Jul 29, 2022 - 00:54

Just as has happened with numerous users before me, my project seems to not open. Musescore sends me the "cannot read file" whenever I attempt to open it. What happened was that the power went out, and although I had saved the score with ctrl+s a few seconds prior, after restarting the PC, the file won't open. I had so much progress done since I had started the session again, it's such a shame. No .mscz, recent file is present in the .mscbackup, so recovering the file is the only way back. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help!

In this case, the power outage was probably significant, my guess is this happened in the middle of the disk cache being written. but here, the autosave file should bail you out. Did you already answer "no" when MuseScore asked if you wanted to restore the previous session? If so, that's OK, you can still recover the autosave copy as described in https://musescore.org/en/node/52116

Also, assuming you saved regularly during the session and didn't literally go hours without ever saving (!), then probably your OS can recover a backup for you. One Windows, for example, unless you went out of your way to disable it, OneDrive always has your back. On macOS, Time Machine can do the same.
