Mixing voices instead of instruments

• Sep 16, 2014 - 09:03

Hi all,
I am using Musescore for a mens choir with 4 voices (TTBB). Normally we arrange notes in systems with 2 linked lines, 2 voices per line to save paper and to make the sheets handier. Musescore does not allow to place 2 different instruments into 1 line. So I have to use voices instead of instruments.
For every sheet we create audio files in MIDI or MP3 format with 1 voice in the foreground and the rest in the background (lower). This is the tricky point. Creating the audio files is quite painful. I need to select all notes and lower the intensity, then I have to select the voice I want to create audio for and set a higher intensity to play this voice. I have to repeat this for all 4 voices.

Here is my wish: I would like to mix the voices like I can do with the instrument mixer. Even to have a shortcut within the context menu for selecting all notes of a specific voice would speed up the process but a voice mixer would be the best option by far.
If this can't be a feature of Musescore, can this be done within an plugin? I am a software developer and familiar with Qt 5.

Best regards
Leisniger

select one note of voice 1, right click, 'Slect -> More...', tick same voice and same stave. Right click that note again, note properties, set velocity type to "user" and increase velocity to your likings

But yes, being able to set the volume voice wise rather than just instrument wise is on my wishlist too

I'm also hoping this will be implemented at some point.

In 2.0 beta it is now possible to define a staff as unplayable from the inspector, and also to hide them properly

So it would be possible to use a combination of hidden and displayed staves to provide a score which displayed as closed score (2 voices per staff) but also had the separate instruments hidden for playback.

That would be less of a faff then fiddling with velocity values.
