musescore, Mac os VoiceOver accessibility?

• Aug 28, 2022 - 06:01

Hi all
I'm a totally blind music composer, and use Mac OS. I'm wanting to get started with musescore, however as of the latest version, 3.6, VoiceOver doesn't have much support. I know version 4 of musescore is coming out soon, is accessibility for VoiceOver on the Mac going to be added? On a separate note, I'm willing to beta test accessibility for Mac in musescore 4.

Yes, you'll be happy to hear VoiceOver is working for MuseScore 4 in the alpha pre-release alrerady! We'd love to get some users trying it out and giving feedback, so see the official announcement here:

Also see the accessibility tutorials I posted here:

Note that the alpha still has a number of bugs that you'll notice in the tutorials, but I show how to work around them. Some of these have already been fixed, some are still being investigated.

By the way, at least one blind user I know runs MuseScore 3.6.2 on her Mac using Boot Camp, which gives her a full Windows system on your Mac. MuseScore seems to work pretty well with both NVDA and JAWS running that way from what I can tell.
