managing rests

• Sep 10, 2022 - 21:08

I am new to Musescore coming from Finale.
Going a bit crazy with rests turning up in undesired places and figuring out how to move things around.
[so not concerned that rests need to be there if the bar is not full, but rather how they are placed and how to move them around]
In the picture attached, how do I get rid of the rest that has appeared between the quaver and the crotchet?
I also see in other places that the system produces two quaver rests together. Is there a way to convert them into a crotchet rest?

"how do I get rid of the rest that has appeared between the quaver and the crotchet?"

Select the crotchet, CTRL+X to cut. Select the rest, CTRL+V to paste.

In general, to "get rid of" a rest you replace it with a note or notes.

"the system produces two quaver rests together. Is there a way to convert them into a crotchet rest?"

Select the first quaver rest and turn it into a crotchet rest by pressing "5".

For further information about how note input works see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/note-input

In general, you don't move silence in MuseScore - you move sound. So don't think, "I have a rest that I need to move later", think, "I have a note that I need to move earlier". Then, cut and paste does the job very naturally.
