Adware in MuseScore 3.6.2

• Nov 10, 2022 - 03:49

I loaded MuseScore going to start transcribing a piano piece, and I had the website "mc.yandex.com" load into my browser (adblocker blocked the website though), and I thought it was weird. I'd had the webpage randomly load once before. I restarted MuseScore, and it happened again. I proceeded to do it four more times to make sure it was MuseScore. I also went through my task manager to make sure it wasn't an application pretending to be MuseScore.

Here is a video of MuseScore doing this (excuse the long load time, I have a good amount of SoundFonts):

EDIT: Figured I'd put the timestamp where the website shows up. The timestamp is 1:28.

EDIT 2: Maybe not..? I searched the code repository on GitHub, I have no idea how up-to-date it is, but I didn't find anything. I might be wrong? I really don't know. Can I get your guy's opinions?

EDIT 3: I HAVE FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM! It is the the MuseScore website(s). The MuseScore application loads in the website on the new score screen/menu, and there is code to load "yandex" in both the MuseScore.com and MuseScore.org websites. Don't be suprised if this website loads when MuseScore loads. Attached are pictures of said code.

Normally your browser shouldn't be opening, but it does indeed appear that depending on your OS and browser settings, this can happen sometimes. But for the record, it's not "adware", it's just ordinary website analytics.
